After record-high temps in Massachusetts, a chance for the first snow of the season From summerlike warmth to possible snowfall in a few days.Sounds just like New England. After temps soared to record-highs in the 80s on Saturday, a major cool down is coming to the region over the next few days. The National Weather Service forecast shows that in parts of Massachusetts, temps may be cold enough for the area’s first chance of light snow of the season on Wednesday and Wednesday night. It appears that there could be some snowfall across the higher elevations of central and western Massachusetts.“There is only a 10-30 percent chance of snowfall over an inch,” the National Weather Service’s forecast discussion reads. “Given the time of year and the anticipated strength of the lift, snow would be most likely during the nighttime hours, especially towards the Berkshires. As previously mentioned, it is still way too early to pinpoint snowfall totals and timing for specific locations.”Ahead of the cool down coming, people got to enjoy some u...

Relief is tinged with sadness as Maine residents resume activities after shooting suspect found dead LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — Sunshine and a sense of relief swept through central Maine on Saturday with word that a man who was on the loose for two days after authorities said he killed 18 people had been found dead.Residents of Lewiston and surrounding towns had been told to stay home since Wednesday night, when authorities say Robert Card opened fire at a bowling alley and then a bar in shootings that also wounded 13 others. His body was found Friday at a recycling center in nearby Lisbon. Released from lockdown, many residents headed outside to enjoy a warm autumn day.“We can now begin to pick up the pieces, begin the grieving process,” said Jim Howaniec, a Lewiston native who served as mayor in the early 1990s. “We were sort of in limbo there for 48 hours, which really isn’t that long of a time, but of course it seemed like 48 years while it was going on.”Melissa Brown said sheltering in place reminded her of living in Washington, D.C., when snipers killed 10 people over a three-wee...

Future for fighting breast cancer may be a vaccine

Future for fighting breast cancer may be a vaccine The future for fighting breast cancer may be a vaccine.    Researchers at Cleveland Clinic started working on the preventive tool 20 years ago. Now they are enrolling patients in early safety and efficacy trials. The experimental vaccine is designed to fight triple -negative breast cancer, the most aggressive form that accounts for 15 percent of cases. The three-shot regimen targets a lactation protein expressed in the majority of triple negative tumors. If breast cancer develops, the body’s immune system is alerted to attack the protein-carrying tumor cells and keep them from growing. More from ‘Stories of Hope: Facing Breast Cancer’ Jennifer Davis, a mother of three, was the first person to receive the injections. She was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2018.Early phase study results are expected by the end of 2023.

Concerns about civilians in Gaza, who have already been struggling with Israeli airstrikes and blackouts, among other difficulties, and what could happen to them amidst the Israeli incursion into Gaza, have been heightened.“We have set two goals for this war: To eliminate Hamas by destroying its military and governing abilities and to do everything possible to bring our captives home. All Hamas terrorists are dead men walking — above ground, below ground, outside Gaza,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a speech earlier this week. Trump also turned his verbal f...
