Boston police have made an arrest in connection with a shootout in Roxbury last week, Police Commissioner Michael Cox announced Tuesday. Surveillance video from a nearby liquor store captured the moment shots rang out on Shawmut Avenue near a park and a playground on Wednesday. In the video, one man was seen walking up the street with his hands in his pockets before pulling out a gun and opening fire into a crowd of people. Another man was later seen coming out of a building and shooting back. Several people were on the sidewalk in the area when the shooting took place, including a young child who would be seen running for cover behind a nearby car. In addition to the scare for bystanders, police said multiple cars were damaged as a result of this shooting.Days later, Cox said an 18-year-old from Cambridge had been taken into custody and arraigned Tuesday morning. The Massachusetts Water Resource Authority has recommended a damaged wind turbine on Deer Island be taken down, one day after a piece of a turbine blade appeared to fly off the structure on Monday. The out-of-service turbine suddenly started spinning on Monday and continued spinning until officials said a contractor was able to insert a braking mechanism. In an update on Tuesday, the MWRA said the turbine suffered “significant damage.”“MWRA believes that the best course of action is to take it down so it no longer poses a danger,” the authority said in its update. While officials said staff are “working to expedite removal,” the MWRA said it may take “a couple of days” to begin work to remove the turbine. Public access to the area around the turbine on Deer Island will remain closed until the turbine is taken down, officials said. An investigation into the cause of the incident remained underway as of Tuesday.Man arrested in NJ in connection with sexual assaults in Charlestown in 2007, 2008

A man who previously lived in the North End was recently arrested at his home in New Jersey in connection with a string of sexual assaults in Boston dating back more than 15 years, officials announced on Tuesday. Boston Police Commissioner, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden and FBI Boston Special Agent in Charge Joe Bonavolonta said the man, identified as Matthew Nilo, was allegedly responsible for four different attacks in the Terminal Street area of Charlestown between 2007 and 2008. Authorities said they were able to use DNA evidence to link the crimes and track Nilo down, despite the years since the incidents themselves. “You should know that, despite the passage of time, the FBI, the Boston Police Department and our law enforcement partners will not give up and we will continue to use any technological advancement we can to seek justice for you and your families,” Bonavolonta said.Police have asked anyone with further information in the case to contac...Francisco Lindor hits his 10th homer, Kodai Senga pitches 7 strong innings in win over Phillies

The Mets haven’t been involved in many pitching duels this season, but that changed Tuesday night at Citi Field with their NL East foes from Philadelphia in town.Kodai Senga, who was coming off one of his worst performances of the season, was masterful against the Philadelphia Phillies, out-dueling left-hander Ranger Suarez. Francisco Lindor hit his 10th home run of the season and the bullpen preserved a slim lead in the Mets’ 2-0 win in the first game of a three-game set.Last time out, Senga (5-3) gave up three earned runs and walked five in a loss to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The five walks were a season-worst, but in eight of nine outings, he had walked at least three batters. This was his first appearance without a walk and it was his most efficient outing to date. The Japanese rookie pitched into the seventh inning for the first time in his Major League career. He one-hit the Phillies (25-29) through seven strong and struck out nine. The only allowed hit was...Hayden Wesneski is back from Iowa as the Chicago Cubs look to the rookie to bolster their struggling bullpen

The Chicago Cubs’ long-term outlook on right-hander Hayden Wesneski hasn’t changed. They believe in his ability to be a big-league starter and potentially an impact arm in their rotation down the line. But the Cubs need more out of their struggling bullpen and are looking to Wesneski to bolster it. They recalled the 25-year-old from Triple-A Iowa before Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays and optioned right-hander Michael Rucker.Manager David Ross isn’t defining a role for Wesneski in the bullpen. Multi-inning use or one-inning appearances both could be in play.“We’re trying to get the most talented pitchers we can down there,” Ross said. “He’s going to go out and do him, so I don’t worry about the heart rate, and he’s been in the bullpen before in big moments.“The reason why guys start is usually they’re the best pitchers and have the best stuff to go multiple innings. That stuff could tick up. We don...Debt limit deal heads to vote in full House while McCarthy scrambles for GOP approval

By LISA MASCARO, KEVIN FREKING and STEPHEN GROVES (Associated Press)WASHINGTON (AP) — Under fire from conservatives, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy worked furiously Tuesday to sell fellow Republicans on the debt ceiling and budget deal he negotiated with President Joe Biden and win approval in time to avert a potentially disastrous U.S. default.Leaders of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus lambasted the compromise as falling well short of the spending cuts they demand, and they vowed to try to halt passage by Congress. A much larger conservative faction, the Republican Study Committee, declined to take a position. Even rank-and-file centrist conservatives were not sure, leaving McCarthy desperately hunting for votes. The House Rules Committee voted 7-6 Tuesday to advance a bill dealing with the federal debt ceiling to the full House, with two Republicans joining Democrats to oppose. The full House is expected to vote Wednesday. With tough days ahead, the speaker went into overtime...Blue Jays bats wake up as club opens homestand with 7-2 win

BRASILIA (AP) — The Brazilian president’s strong support of Venezuela’s authoritarian leader marred the unity Tuesday at a South American summit that Brazil convened in hopes of reviving a bloc of the region’s 12 politically polarized countries.Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva proposed during his opening speech the creation of a regional currency to rival the U.S. dollar in his bid for the dozen countries to work more closely together. But Lula’s warm embrace of Venezuela’s authoritarian leftist President Nicolás Maduro just ahead of the meeting drew pushback from some of his neighbors and threatened the sense of unity the Brazilian president was seeking.Uruguay’s President Luis Lacalle Pou said the “worst thing we can do” is pretend there are no significant human rights problems in Venezuela.Lula, in response, said that “no one is forced to agree with anybody”. Lula wants to revive the Union of South American Nations, or Unasur, which launched in 2008 ...Truck driver indicted on manslaughter charges after deadly Oregon crash that killed 7 farmworkers
