(NEXSTAR) -- Former first lady Rosalynn Carter has died, just two days after entering hospice care. She was 96. Carter passed away Sunday afternoon at her Plains, Georgia, home, The Carter Center said in a statement. “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” President Carter said in a statement. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. AUSTIN (KXAN) — 'Tis the season for Austinites, as the Austin Trail of Lights show was named one of the best holiday light shows nationwide.Recreational news outlet RV Trader named the Texas capital's holiday display among its Top 6. The annual show, celebrating its 59th year, features more than two million lights, 90 holiday-lit trees and more than 70 additional displays. Gillian Luce, director of consumer marketing with Trader Interactive, said in an email it's become a "long-standing tradition" for Austinites and visitors alike."During our search for unique destinations for holiday light lovers, Zilker Park made our top list as it transforms into Austin’s Trail of Lights each year. Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, the longtime wife of former United States President Jimmy Carter, has died at the age of 96. The Carter Center confirmed her death on Sunday afternoon, saying that she passed away surrounded by her family at her home in Plains, Georgia. A champion of mental health, caregiving and women’s rights, Carter was married to former President Jimmy Carter for 77 years. “Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” Jimmy Carter said in the Carter Center release. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.” She leaves behind three children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Suzanne Shepherd, the actress best known for her roles in “The Sopranos” and “Goodfellas” has passed away at the age of 89, according to multiple reports. Her agent confirmed to Variety that she passed away Friday morning at her home in New York City. Shepherd was famous for playing the role of a woman who “mothered iconic mob wives,” according to Entertainment Weekly. She portrayed Mary DeAngelis, the mother of Carmela Soprano, in multiple seasons of “The Sopranos” and played the mother of Karen Hill in the award-winning biographical crime film “Goodfellas” directed by Martin Scorsese. An ancient West Coast football rivalry will continue into the next era as the Washington schools on Sunday announced an agreement to continue the Apple Cup following the breakup of the Pac-12.The Cougars and Huskies signed a five-year contract that begins next season with a neutral-field matchup, followed by four games played on a home-and-home basis.Washington is moving to the Big Ten in 2024 while WSU is expected to compete in the Pac-12 along with Oregon State — an unprecedented two-team conference permissible under NCAA rules.The Apple Cup matchup scheduled for Sept. 14, 2024 will be played at Lumen Field, the home of the Seahawks.The 2025 and 2027 games will be in Pullman, with the 2026 and 2028 matchups at Husky Stadium.The dates have not been finalized for 2025-28, but the series likely will be played in September because of Washington’s commitment to Big Ten games in October and November.Apple Cup games played in Seattle will be owned by the Big Ten’s media...Fully involved structure fire in Santa Rosa on Roberts Avenue

DENVER (KDVR) -- Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a report of two vehicles that hit a building near Hampden Avenue and Uravan Way at about 1:40 p.m., leaving patients trapped inside one vehicle. Local company plans to buy, deliver over 3,000 turkeys to food banks Crews were able to extricate all three individuals involved in the crash. AFR reported both patients had serious, "potentially life-threatening" injuries due to the crash. (AP) — Jalen Ramsey caught a game-sealing interception to help stifle Las Vegas’ fourth-quarter comeback, and the Miami Dolphins overcame three turnovers to hold off the Raiders 20-13 Sunday.Ramsey, who also intercepted Aidan O’Connell earlier in the game, caught a pass in the end zone intended for Tre Tucker with 22 seconds left, ending a rare game in which Miami’s defense outshined its offense.Tua Tagovailoa was 28 of 39 with 325 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for Miami. A shooting in a Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood left one person dead, sent another to the hospital and led police to take two people into custody.Upon arrival, Miami-Dade Police said, officers found two men shot in the area of Northwest 143rd Street and 16th Court. One of the victims was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center, where he is said to be critically injured and recovering. Police said the second victim died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.Officers detained two people at the scene.“The relationship between the victims and the two people detained, has been a crucial part of the investigation and our investigators are still attempting to piece that together,” said MDPD Detective Andre Martin.Police later arrested one of these two people. He was identified as 32-year-old Lekambrick Aljenard Hanna.Hanna has since been charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of tampering with evidence.Police contin...Latest news
