CONIFER, Colo. (KDVR) -- There is nothing like going out into the woods and cutting down your own Christmas tree. That’s exactly what FOX31's Dan Daru did with a friend.Back in the 1800s, there was not a fancy tree store where you could buy a pre-cut, pre-shaped and prepared Christmas tree. You had to go get it yourself. That’s why I invited my pal Jay Judd to join me. Coincidentally, Judd is a certified arborist for Davey Tree in Denver.Immediately upon arrival to “Danland,” my property, Jay took a look around and declared that all trees are not created equal. Longest shot ski record broken in Breckenridge with almost 500 skis later “Right here we have a pretty classic tree for the mountains," Judd said. "It’s the ponderosa pine, and what’s unique about this tree is its butter-scotchy smell.” Take a whiff and you’ll see, or actually, smell, that Judd was right. It smelled like the sweet, yellow, buttery candy. It didn’t taste like it, however. Many species of evergreen trees wou...‘It’s a mirror story’: Former athlete mentors South Florida teen who suffered devastating injury while playing football

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A federal judge on Friday prohibited the separation of families at the border for purposes of deterring immigration for eight years, preemptively blocking resumption of a lightning-rod, Trump-era policy that the former president hasn’t ruled out if voters return him to the White House next year. The separation of thousands of families “represents one of the most shameful chapters in the history of our country,” U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw said moments before approving a settlement between the Justice Department and families represented by the American Civil Liberties Union that ended a legal challenge nearly seven years after it was filed.Sabraw, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, ordered an end to separations in June 2018, six days after then-President Donald Trump halted them on his own amid intense international backlash.
