Weekend mass shootings leave 6 people dead, dozens injured across the U.S. Mass shootings and violence across the U.S. killed at least six people this weekend, including a Pennsylvania state trooper, and wounded dozens of people. Multiple people with guns fired shots at a holiday crowd in Illinois and bullets flew among teenagers partying in Missouri. The shootings follow a surge in homicides and other violence over the past several years that experts say accelerated during the coronavirus pandemic. They happened in suburban Chicago, Washington state, central Pennsylvania, St. Louis, Southern California and Baltimore.“There’s no question there’s been a spike in violence,” said Daniel Nagin, a professor of public policy and statistics at Carnegie Mellon University. “Some of these cases seem to be just disputes, often among adolescents, and those disputes are played out with firearms, not with fists.”Researchers disagree over the cause of the increase. Meet Transcendent Expressionism Painter Robert Standish

Meet Transcendent Expressionism Painter Robert Standish Painter Robert Standish practices a transcendent expressionism in which abstractions become occasions for, and locations of, sensations of awe, wonder, and emotional depth. Guided by organic principles of rhythm, motion, sublimated patterns, saturated color, and rich texture, Standish’s gestures in think paint channel, replicate, honor, and expand on the hidden forces that organize the universe. Eschewing a prior photorealist voice in favor of a different way of connecting with life’s events and experiences, Standish plugs directly into the source now rather than recording its effects. Although his vivid style and intuitive process sometimes alight upon moments that evoke the outside world, it’s Standish’s concern to access a meta-language of pure gesture and color that enriches the interior landscape.Robert Standish, Time and Perspective, Acrylic on canvas, 2022, 30 x 40 inchesL.A.
