Palo Alto: Woman’s sexual assault under investigation, police say PALO ALTO — Police said they were asking for the public’s help in finding a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman in a pedestrian underpass this weekend, authorities said.In a statement Sunday, police said dispatchers received a call around 2:50 p.m. from a citizen who said he found a woman in the California Avenue pedestrian underpass who told him she had been sexually assaulted.Officers responded to the underpass, where they learned that the woman had been walking her bicycle east through the underpass when a man walking his bike westbound passed her.The woman said the man then struck her, and she fell. As the man then sexually assaulted her, she yelled for help. The man took her cell phone and fled. The citizen then came across the woman and called for help, police said.Other officers found the woman’s phone about a mile away in the 3000 block of Emerson Street and began processing it for evidence.
