South Korean outfielder Jung Hoo Lee and the San Francisco Giants have agreed to a $113 million, six-year contract, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the agreement had not been announced. Lee, a South Korean MVP and the son of a former MVP, can terminate the deal after four years and $72 million to become a free agent again.San Francisco reached the agreement after failing to sign two-way star Shohei Ohtani, who reached a record $700 million, 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 25-year-old Lee was posted by South Korea’s Kiwoom Heroes on Dec. 4, and if he stays for the entire contract, the Giants would owe the Heroes an $18,825,000 posting fee. If he opts out, the posting fee would be reduced to $12,675,000.San Francisco also would owe an additional fee of 15% for any earned bonuses or escalators.Lee hit .318 with six homers and 48 RBIs in 86 games this year, a se...Wizards, Capitals owner to announce intention to move teams to Northern Virginia, sources say

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Jeers rang around Old Trafford on Tuesday as Manchester United suffered an embarrassingly early exit from the Champions League after a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich. Kingsley Coman’s 70th-minute goal ended the three-time European Cup winners’ slim chances of advancing to the knockout stage and delivered a latest blow in an ever-worsening season for Erik ten Hag. The 12th defeat in all competitions this season meant United could not even secure the safety net of a place in the Europa League after finishing bottom of Group A. “The facts are we do not have enough points, we are disappointed as a group, as a manager, I am disappointed. We should have done better,” Ten Hag said.Copenhagen advanced to the round of 16 behind group winner Bayern after beating Galatasaray 1-0. That result meant even a United win would not have seen it advance to the next stage. Injury to Harry Maguire only added to Ten Hag’s concerns ahead of Sunday’s Premier League game at leader Live...Russian man who arrived on Los Angeles flight without passport or ticket charged with federal crime

Sergey Vladimirovich Ochigava arrived at Los Angeles International Airport on Nov. 4 via Scandinavian Airlines flight 931 from Copenhagen. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer could not find Ochigava on the flight manifest or any other incoming international flights, according to the complaint filed Nov. 6 in Los Angeles federal court. He was charged with being a stowaway on an aircraft and pleaded not guilty in a Dec. 5 arraignment. A trial was scheduled for Dec. 26. A federal public defender representing Ochigava, who remained in custody Tuesday, didn’t immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press seeking comment. The flight crew told investigators that during the flight’s departure, Ochigava was in a s...Sociedad caps impressive return to Champions League with 0-0 draw at Inter to win group

A familiar Christmas song says “the weather outside is frightful” (you know the rest). However, instead of “let it snow” south Floridians will have to settle for rain and, potentially, a lot of it. Some on-and-off showers will return to the area by Wednesday. That’s just the start of a soggy-type pattern setting up for the remainder of the week. At the core of the rainy stretch is a developing area of low pressure. This disturbance is forming in the southern Gulf of Mexico and will draw more moisture into our region as the week continues. Next, the low will head to the east and northeast, squarely aiming for the Florida Peninsula. The exact track is important in determining which parts of Florida get the most rainfall in the days ahead. However, it’s worth noting that even on its projected path (cutting across central, or north central Florida) there will be a large slug of heavy rain overall. The National Weather Service issued a statement...Latest news
