SAN JOSE — A man arrested in San Jose last year and extradited to Arizona on an outstanding warrant has been returned to the Bay Area after police determined that he had killed one man and wounded another in a July 2022 shooting near the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.The suspect, Noel Cortez, 33, was originally arrested in September 2022 in San Jose, police said in a news release Monday. Authorities said he had an outstanding warrant in Arizona, though they did not specify the nature of the warrant. Following the arrest, he was extradited to the Arizona State Prison Complex.While Cortez was in custody in Arizona, police determined that he was responsible for the San Jose shooting, though they did not say how they reached that conclusion.The shooting took place on July 31, 2022 around 3:55 a.m. on the 300 block of Umbarger Road, according to authorities. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- BART is currently experiencing a 20-minute delay between Embarcadero and West Oakland in the SFO, Millbrae, Daly City and East Bay directions due to an earlier obstruction on the track outside West Oakland. This is the latest in a series of mishaps for the transit agency on Monday.Earlier, firefighters were on the scene of an incident at the Civic Center BART Station involving a person experiencing a medical emergency on the track Monday morning, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. Initial SFFD reports incorrectly indicated that the incident was a fire that had been extinguished. While Monday remains mired in below-normal temperatures, Tuesday will see a return to seasonal averages leading to a week of gradual warming. FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. (AP) — A 9-year-old boy attending his grandmother’s birthday party in a Chicago suburb was killed in a drive-by shooting, police said.Ulysses Campos had been playing with a group of children in an alley late Saturday when four to six shots were fired from a moving vehicle, Franklin Park police director Michael Witz said in a statement Sunday night.The boy was struck in the chest and died after being taken to a hospital, police said.No one else was struck by gunfire in the 10:15 p.m. shooting, which happened in a Franklin Park neighborhood about a mile outside Chicago’s western city limits.Police said a person of interest in the shooting was taken into custody, and officers found a car suspected to be involved in the shooting in nearby Leyden Township. (AP) — Tim Tebow will be part of an ownership group bringing an expansion hockey team to Lake Tahoe, the ECHL announced Monday.The league, in conjunction with Zawyer Sports & Entertainment, said the team will begin play in the 2024-25 season.
