A 42-year-old Corona resident was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 7, after police say she fatally ran over her 6-year-old son as he ran alongside the car while attempting to open the door.Dunar Larson died at a hospital after being struck on Aug. 22 on Sallie Jeffreys Way, the Corona Police Department said.Investigators learned that Melissa Ann Damron locked Dunar out of her car as she drove away from their home on Clemence Court that morning.“Duner chased after the vehicle and attempted to open her car door. Melissa continued driving, and Duner fell into the roadway, where he was run over by the car. Evidence showed Melissa knew Duner was close enough to the vehicle to present a hazard, and she drove with gross negligence, causing her son’s death,” police wrote in a news release.Damron did not appear to be impaired, police said.After a two-week investigation, Damron was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment causing death. (BCN) -- A man was killed early Sunday morning in Oakland when he was shot right before being hit by a vehicle. Oakland police said they received multiple ShotSpotter activations just before 2:30 a.m. in the 300 block of 14th Street. Responding officers found an Oakland man suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle and gunfire. 'Rough doing business in Oakland': Cafe closes after 22 years Medical personnel responded and transported the man to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim's name is being withheld by authorities pending notification of his next of kin. (KRON) -- A fire in the backyard of a home was contained Sunday night in a Lafayette neighborhood just off of Highway 24, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.Around 8 p.m., a fire started in two large pigeon coups in the backyard of a home on Sierra Vista Way. The fire spread to trees and backyard debris, Battalion Chief Ross Macumber said.Photo: Contra Costa County Fire Protection DistrictThe fire was eventually contained with the home and backyard able to be saved by fire crews. One pigeon coup was destroyed and the other suffered minor damages.According to the fire department, the fire was able to be contained quickly due to no wind being present at the time.
