That’s a lot of hip-hop talent on one bill, and Snoop alone would be worth the ticket price. The man just gets better with age.LA Weekly culture editor Lina Lecaro wrote about Snoop and his family’s business enterprise back in November.“Long Beach’s own Snoop Dogg is legendary for his laid-back yet biting flow, which makes any music he puts out or guests on ooze with languid cool,” she wrote. “Snoop has always brought the badass without the belligerence, the hype without the hurry, allowing his words and vibe to glide and shine on record and on stage in a way that seems effortless yet fully expressed. This, coupled with his smooth persona and style, has made him one of the most iconic figures in hip-hop, a steady and seductive voice in ...

Three people die after drinking restaurant’s milkshakes Three people have died after drinking milkshakes from a Tacoma fast-food restaurant, Washington’s health department reported. The three were among six people hospitalized with an infection caused by one strain of Listeria bacteria. The same strain was found in the two ice cream machines at Frugals, a hamburger drive-through.The machines, which “were not cleaned correctly,” were taken out of use on Aug. 8, after health inspectors made the connection to the sickened diners, the health department said.Because Listeria can sicken people for up to 70 days, those who had a Frugals milkshake before Aug. 8 are advised to seek medical care if they’re suffering flu-like symptoms and are pregnant, elderly or immunocompromised. The bacteria was found in all milkshake flavors. The six patients associated with the case are five people from Pierce County and one person in Thurston County; they were hospitalized between Feb. 27 and July 22. A’s owner John Fisher breaks silence, says he won’t sell team: Las Vegas interview John Fisher has yet to do an interview with a Bay Area outlet since taking over as the Oakland A’s owner in 2016, or even since becoming a part-owner in 2005.But the infamously reclusive Fisher recently spoke to the Las Vegas Review-Journal for a question-and-answer session published on Wednesday morning and revealed several key details regarding the A’s planned move to Las Vegas. And the most important takeaway: Much to the chagrin of the A’s fans who have chanted “Sell the team” at nearly every game since the All-Star break, Fisher says he has “not considered selling the team.”“I’ve now owned the team with my partner Lew Wolff, it’s shocking really how the time flies, but since 2005,” Fisher said. “Our goal since then has been to find a new home and build a new home for our team.”Fisher said the A’s recently submitted their relocation application to Major League Baseball and its three-man relocation committee, expressing hope that it will be approved soon, though he admitted he isn...

Bay Area outdoors: A day trip or weekend nature jaunt is just what the doctor ordered Breathing in the sweet scent of coyote bush and listening to the gentle drone of bees, a feeling of well-being washes over me. I’m outside a special cabin in the Santa Cruz Mountains trying the latest trend in healthcare in the heart of Silicon Valley. This isn’t some costly high-tech treatment — it’s a dose of nature, which some Bay Area doctors have begun prescribing alongside traditional remedies.Research shows spending time in nature can lower blood pressure, anxiety and stress levels. In recent years, Bay Area doctors and organizations such as the Institute at the Golden Gate, which is part of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and the nationwide Parks RX, have begun taking a more proactive approach to connect people with nature.Dr. Laurie Bostick Cammon participates in Santa Clara County’s Juntos Initiative at the Pediatric Healthy Lifestyle Center in Santa Clara, writing prescriptions for her patients to spend time outside.“Even if you can’t do a lot of adventur...

SF appeals court holds hearing on enforcing homeless sweeps in city

SF appeals court holds hearing on enforcing homeless sweeps in city (BCN) -- The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will host a hearing Wednesday on whether to uphold a court order that bars the city of San Francisco from clearing tent encampments. In December, a federal magistrate judge ruled that San Francisco city officials cannot enforce or threaten laws against involuntary homeless people sleeping, sitting or lying on city streets. The federal judge issued a preliminary injunction on the basis that San Francisco did not have enough shelter beds for the city's unhoused population. Enforcing these laws when people did not have ample access to shelter would violate the Eighth Amendment's cruel and unusual punishment clause, she concluded. In response, San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu filed an appeal challenging the definition of what it means to be "involuntarily homeless." Before the hearing Wednesday, a coalition of businesses and community groups will join a slew of San Francisco officials to speak out against the court order in a...
