Gophers defensive lineman Trey Bixby has decided to medically retire from football, a source told the Pioneer Press on Wednesday.Bixby, a top-rated recruit in the Gophers’ 2022 class, redshirted last season but wasn’t on the roster for the Pinstripe Bowl in December and has not returned for spring practices this month. In 2020, Bixby had treatments for an illness which made him autoimmune, and with the pandemic, forced him to sit out and loose weight from roughly 240 pounds to under 200. Through the issues, the Gophers honored the four-star prospect’s commitment and Bixby signed with the U in December 2021.Bixby played at St. Edwards High School in Lakewood, Ohio, as a sophomore. He sat out his junior year and transferred to Eden Prairie for his senior season, when he was cleared to play in 2021.Related ArticlesCollege Sports | P.J.
