LAS VEGAS (AP) — Until now, Jack Eichel has only watched the NHL playoffs, which has given him some idea of the intensity that comes once the 16-team tournament begins. But the eight-year veteran who has played in 476 regular-season games won’t really know what it will feel like until he skates onto the T-Mobile Arena ice Tuesday night. That’s when the Vegas Golden Knights, who own the home ice advantage in the Western Conference playoffs, open their seven-game, first-round series against the Winnipeg Jets.“He’s waited a long time for this,” Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said.Eichel played his first six seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, who drafted him second overall in 2015. He scored at least 24 goals in each of his first five seasons, signed an eight-year, $80 million contract in October 2017 and, exactly a year later, was named team captain. But Eichel’s time in Buffalo ended on a sour note after he and the club disagreed on how to treat his neck injury. CLEVELAND — Josh Hart came to the rescue. With his team collapsing in the fourth quarter — falling to the might of Donovan Mitchell — Hart, a player certainly not known for his offense, found himself with the ball and the shot clock dwindling.Hart had no choice. He needed to make a play for himself. So he took a step back with his dribble and buried a 3-pointer, highlighting a heroic performance from the Game 1 thriller for the Knicks in their 101-97 win over the Cavs.Hart’s bucket changed the momentum with 1:46 remaining, with the Cavs taking the lead on the previous possession for the first time since the opening quarter. But the Knicks still needed to close out the victory. They accomplished that through their bread-and-butter — offensive rebounding — with Julius Randle and Isaiah Hartenstein picking up huge extra possessions in the final minute.Despite Mitchell’s 38 points, Round 1 went to the Knicks. It was the first NBA playoff game in C...Rafael Devers, Yu Chang, Kenley Jansen power in Red Sox bizarre comeback win

“Today is a reminder that we are all Boston Strong. This is the time of year for hope. This is the time of year for Boston.”These sentiments were part of a moving pre-game ceremony centered on the 10th anniversary of the Boston Marathon Bombing and Major League Baseball’s annual Jackie Robinson Day.It just hasn’t been a very hopeful time for this Red Sox pitching staff.Boston’s starting rotation has allowed more home runs than any other team’s, and they’re the only team in the majors without at least one start longer than five innings. But buoyed by a sold-out Fenway, an unusual amount of catcher’s interference, and some clutch hits, the Red Sox took Game 2 of the series, 9-7, coming from behind twice before Kenley Jansen slammed the door. It was Jansen’s second save of the series, allowing him to tie Craig Kimbrel for seventh in MLB history.Taking the mound for the second contest of this seven-game homestand, Nick Pivetta only lasted four in...Oscar Colás delivers the winning hit in the 10th, giving the Chicago White Sox a 7-6 victory against the Baltimore Orioles

The Ford government has unveiled its vision while Toronto mayoral candidates have weighed in with their thoughts, and on Saturday local residents had their say when it comes to the future development of Ontario Place. A few hundred people – many belonging to a group called “Ontario Place For All” – attended a public consultation at the Beanfield Centre on the Exhibition grounds to express concerns about access to the waterfront being cut off as a result of future redevelopment. “I swim there regularly, I ride my bike there regularly, I just hang out there regularly, so that’s my concern – that it remains public use,” said one attendee. “To have public access, to be able to on a Sunday afternoon stop and they might have taco trucks or I’ll go to a concert or a movie or something – that’s absolutely essential,” said another who attended the meeting. A sore point with many who attended is the proposed spa being built with concerns...Latest news
