AUSTIN (Nexstar) -- The Department of Justice is expected to file a lawsuit against Texas and its controversial new border security law on Wednesday, accusing the state of infringing on federal authority and empowering local police to unconstitutionally arrest suspected illegal immigrants.Last week, federal authorities threatened to sue to block Senate Bill 4 if Gov. Greg Abbott did not assure them the state will not enforce the law by Jan. 3.“SB 4 effectively creates a separate state immigration scheme by imposing criminal penalties for violations of federal provisions on unlawful entry and reentry into the United States…and by authorizing state judges to order the removal of noncitizens from the United States,” the DOJ wrote in a letter sent to Abbott and obtained by Nexstar. “SB 4, therefore, intrudes into a field that is occupied by the federal government and is preempted.” US Department of Justice threatens to sue Texas over new border security law Abbott signed the bill into...Report finds Koenig Lane a hot spot for traffic crashes involving injuries

With a slim chance of making the playoffs, the Vikings are turning back to veteran quarterback Nick Mullens to start Sunday’s season finale against the Detroit Lions.Talking to reporters before Wednesday’s walkthrough at TCO Performance Center, head coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed the decision, emphasizing that Mullens has been a prolific passer during his time under center.“We’ve been very explosive as an offense when he’s been in there,” O’Connell said. “The one area that we must focus on is possession of the football.”That has been easier said than done for Mullens in his time as the starter. He threw two interceptions in a 27-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in his first start on Dec. 16, then threw four interceptions in a 30-24 loss to the Lions in his second start on Dec. 24.Those performances got Mullens benched in favor of rookie quarterback Jaren Hall ahead of the 33-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers on New Year’s ...Sidewalk Warriors Troy seeks donations of winter coats
