Burn restriction issued for City of Austin parks, greenbelts, preserves

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Parks and Recreation Department has issued a burning restriction effective immediately. The restriction means no grilling or fires are allowed in any City of Austin parks, greenbelts and preserves. This includes the use of wood or charcoal BBQ pits/grills/smokers. Propane stoves are allowed in designated picnic areas only, according to a release from the city. Smoking is always prohibited in city parks. Travis County leaders talk about wildfire dangers, preparations PARD issued the restriction to "ensure the safety of park patrons and surrounding communities while minimizing the wildfire risk in the city's parks and greenbelts," the release said. Park rangers will enforce the burning restriction in the city’s parks and greenbelts. Violations may result in a fine between $300 and $500, according to the city. If confirmed, she would be the first woman to be a U.S. military service chief.Biden’s decision to tap Franchetti, an admiral with broad command and executive experience, goes against the recommendation of his Pentagon chief, but he is selecting an officer whom insiders had considered the top choice for the job. (NEWS10) -- The Dutchess County SPCA is hosting a summer adoption event on Saturday, July 29, from 12 to 3 p.m. Anyone who adopts a dog at the event will have their adoption photo taken by professional photographer Carlisle Stockton for free. QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Warren County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at a residence on Pershing Road on Friday morning. Police say a suspect shot people at the residence and then took his own life. ST. LOUIS - Two teenagers were shot, and another teenager was robbed in three separate incidents that unfolded within eight hours Thursday in St. Louis. St. Louis police have not reported any deaths or arrests in any of the cases. Denver Public Schools will release a video recording of a closed-door meeting that board members held in March in response to a shooting inside East High School after the district’s board voted Friday morning to make it public.The board’s 7-0 vote came four weeks after a Denver District Court ruled the five-hour executive session on March 23 violated Colorado law. A Good Samaritan from Long Beach is being hailed as a hero after coming to the aid of a young girl who was allegedly kidnapped, repeatedly raped, and taken from Texas to California. Touch Vong believes it was an act of God that the 13-year-old victim and her alleged captor walked into the laundromat where she works on July 9. The suspect, later identified as Steven Robert Sablan, 61, of Cleburne, Texas, asked Vong about a nearby restaurant’s hours.
