ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A journalist was assaulted and had his phone stolen while working on a story about the vandalism of political campaign signs, the Anchorage Daily News reported.Photographer Loren Holmes was assaulted Friday amid the peak of campaigning in a municipal election that is set to wrap up Tuesday, according to the newspaper. Police responded to the incident but did not have any other details, including whether any arrests have been made, the police department’s dispatch supervisor, Dennis Lasley, told The Associated Press on Sunday. Holmes had arranged to meet someone from a political consulting firm to take photographs on Friday at a site where signs had been vandalized, he said. In 2021 alone, 935 people died in pedestrian and bicyclist-related crashes in Texas. Los Angeles police have identified the suspected gunman who opened fire in a busy West Hills shopping center, killing one and injuring three others Saturday afternoon.The shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. for reports of gunfire exchanged involving multiple people at a shopping plaza near Fallbrook Avenue and Vanowen Street.A 45-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Santa Ana police are investigating after two pedestrians were hit by a vehicle that fled the scene early Sunday morning.It happened around 2 a.m. in a residential neighborhood near the intersection of St. Gertrude Place and South Ross Street.A man and a woman were struck by a vehicle which then drove away from the scene without stopping, police said.Both pedestrians were transported to the hospital by ambulance. OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) -- A shooting on Telegraph Avenue in Oakland left a man injured on Saturday evening, according to the Oakland Police Department. Man arrested after police find loaded gun in vehicle Just before 6 p.m., the OPD Communications Division received multiple reports of a shooting in the 4900 block of Telegraph Avenue. Officers found a man with gunshot wounds at the scene. Emergency medical crews treated the man at the scene before he was taken to a local hospital. He is now listed in stable condition.
