This was one of the great postseason performances any Knick has ever had ending on the right baseline in Miami late Friday night. This was Jalen Brunson running into a double team from Jimmy Butler and Max Strus that was the same as running into the ending to this Knicks season. It was only the second round. The Knicks still can’t make it past the second round. It doesn’t change what we just saw from the best point guard the Knicks have had since Clyde.Brunson, the best free agent the Knicks have ever had, had done everything he could do on this night, the way he had done that all series long. He had scored 38 at the Garden on Wednesday night as the Knicks won Game 5 and won another night of season. Now he was on his way to scoring 41 in Game 6, keeping his team alive and the hopes of Knick fans alive throughout a rock fight of a basketball game. And somehow, after the Knicks had been down six going into the last minute, they still found themselves just down two, and the ...Slide continues for Chicago White Sox — 14 games under .500 — in a 5-1 loss to the Houston Astros

All eyes leading into Friday were on José Abreu, the former Chicago White Sox first baseman making his return to Guaranteed Rate Field for the first time with the Houston Astros.Sox starter Michael Kopech took center stage after a 2 hour, 10 minute rain delay, carrying an unconventional no-hitter into the fifth.Through four, the right-hander walked four, hit one batter and allowed a run on a sacrifice fly and didn’t surrender a hit.Kopech walked two more in the fifth and gave up his first hit, a two-out run-scoring double by Kyle Tucker just out of the reach of sliding left fielder Andrew Benintendi. The Astros led the rest of the way, topping the Sox 5-1.“I felt like I had good stuff, but it goes without saying that we’ve all been around this game long enough to know the importance of throwing strikes,” Kopech said. “To say the least, I didn’t do that well (Friday). I got taken advantage of and lost a lot of momentum for the boys. It’s ...2 injured, 1 critically after multi-vehicle rollover crash in Mississauga

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — On Friday, Elon Musk announced that NBC Universal’s Linda Yaccarino will serve as the new CEO of Twitter. Yaccarino is a longtime advertising executive credited with integrating and digitizing ad sales at NBCU. Her challenge now will be to woo back advertisers that have fled Twitter since Musk acquired it last year for $44 billion.Since taking ownership, Musk has fired thousands of Twitter employees, largely scrapped the trust-and-safety team responsible for keeping the site free of hate speech, harassment and misinformation, and blamed others — particularly mainstream media organizations, which he views as untrustworthy “competitors” to Twitter for ad dollars — for exaggerating Twitter’s problems. In April, the two met for an on-stage conversation at a marketing convention in Miami Beach, Florida. NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s main opposition Congress party wrested control of the crucial southern Karnataka state from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist party, according to a near complete vote count Saturday that boosted its prospects ahead of national elections due next year. The poll results are expected to energize the largely divided opposition that is banking on forming a united front to challenge Modi in next year’s general election in which he will seek to extend his prime ministership for a third consecutive term. They will also help prospects of the Congress party, which was routed by Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party in the last two national polls and is striving to regain its political prominence nationwide. The defeat in Karnataka means Modi’s party, which was banking on his popularity, has lost the only southern state it has ever controlled and where its strident Hindu nationalist politics has found relatively slower reception than the rest of the co...Census rejecting some big-city complaints of 2020 undercounts

Some of the largest U.S. cities challenging their 2020 census numbers aren’t getting the results they hoped for from the U.S. Census Bureau — an effort by Memphis to increase its official population resulted in three people being subtracted from its count during an initial appeal. Some successes have come from challenges to totals of “group quarters” — dorms, jails and nursing homes. They were among the most difficult to count as campuses closed and prisons and nursing homes were locked down at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Census Bureau created a separate program to handle these challenges. The Census Bureau has received more than 100 submissions in total for its two challenge programs from cities, towns and villages of all sizes across the U.S.The challenges won’t affect how many congressional seats each state got during the apportionment process, or the more detailed numbers used for redrawing political boundaries. But new numbers could shape how ...Latest news
