Survey: Gun violence becoming normalized for some Denver students DENVER (KDVR) -- A survey being conducted at DSST Elevate Northeast and East High School shows a large number of kids are being exposed to gun violence.The school's survey showed 81% of students said they felt gun violence was normal, 72% said youth violence affected their learning and 64% said they were personally affected by gun violence.So far, 47 students have been surveyed according to Jason McBride, Struggle of Love Foundation Secondary Violence Prevention Specialist.McBride said the survey is still being conducted.McBride said many of the students he works with at DSST Elevate Northeast have been surrounded by violence. That’s the reason DSST middle school students wanted to sponsor an event to hopefully deter violence among kids. Colorado's free public transit program just expanded DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado's free transit program just got a boost.Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill into law on Friday that expands the grant program, designed to offer free public transit rides during peak ozone season. The new law allows transit agencies to roll over the money and use it for rider outreach. It also gives transit agencies more flexibility on when to use the money, as Colorado regions experience ozone season differently. Apartment values rise higher than homes in Denver, Boulder "Our bill expands this successful free transit program to save Coloradans money on fares and further reduce the amount of harmful ground-level ozone pollution released," Rep. MBTA inspection finds 283 track defects need repairs to lift slow zones The MBTA completed a systemwide track inspection, a preliminary step needed to begin lifting the plethora of speed restrictions that plague each subway line.This inspection and validation process determined that there are 283 track defects across the transit system that require some type of repair. There are 100 defects on the Green Line, 74 on the Red Line, 69 on the Blue Line, 24 on the Orange Line, and 16 on the Mattapan Line, MBTA spokesperson Lisa Battiston said Friday.As of Friday, 23% of the subway system was speed-restricted, impacting 31.3 miles of track. There are 220 slow zones in place.
