TRAVIS SMYTH ACES 17TH HOLEHOYLAKE, England (AP) — Australian Travis Smyth has aced the 17th hole at the British Open.Smyth hit a high 9-iron tee shot that bounced twice before going in the picturesque hole that played 132 yards long on Friday. There was a huge roar from the crowd, and Smyth raised his right arm to celebrate as his caddie and playing partners came over to congratulate him. It was the first hole-in-one at Hoylake this week. The 17th was redesigned to add drama to the Open at Royal Liverpool this year, challenging players with an elevated green well protected by steep slopes and deep bunkers. High winds coming from the Irish Sea made it difficult for players to find the putting surface. The 310th-ranked Smyth was 2-over par for the round before making the ace. He finished his round at 1-over 72 and was at 8 over for the tournament, unlikely to make the cut.___WHAT TO KNOW— A day of surprises at British Open.— South African amateur Christo Lamprecht is a big man with a bi...Interpublic: Q2 Earnings Snapshot

NEW YORK (AP) — Tony Bennett, the eminent and timeless stylist whose devotion to classic American songs and knack for creating new standards such as "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" graced a decadeslong career that brought him admirers from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga, died Friday. He was 96, just two weeks short of his birthday.Publicist Sylvia Weiner confirmed Bennett's death to The Associated Press, saying he died in his hometown of New York. There was no specific cause, but Bennett had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2016.The last of the great saloon singers of the mid-20th century, Bennett often said his lifelong ambition was to create "a hit catalog rather than hit records." He released more than 70 albums, bringing him 19 competitive Grammys — all but two after he reached his 60s — and enjoyed deep and lasting affection from fans and fellow artists.Bennett didn’t tell his own story when performing; he let the music speak instead — the Gershwins and Cole Porter, Ir...Young boy meets BSO deputies who saved his life after bike accident

A dog was left abandoned and alone outside a South Florida animal adoption center. Employees are now hoping he finds his ‘fur-ever’ home. On May 31, a woman was seen tying him up to the door and driving away on surveillance video in front of the United for Animals adoption center on State Road 7 in Margate, well after closing time and 14 hours before it was to open for business the next day. “A female came out of her car with Edward and tied him to the door,” said Nicoda Hall with the United for Animals Rescue, “And in tying him to the door, she was very aggressive towards Edward. She was shouting, but unfortunately, we could not hear what was being said.”After a few minutes, the dog watched as the woman walked away and drove off. “To see a beloved family member, because we don’t really call them pets, left like that — it breaks your heart,” said Hall.
